Houston Gaines

Representative Houston Gaines is a lifelong Athens resident and 8th-generation northeast Georgian serving Barrow, Clarke, Jackson, and Oconee counties in the State House since 2019. Alongside his legislative duties, Houston works in business development with Carter Engineering.

A proven conservative champion, Houston has authored over 20 enacted laws focused on public safety, stopping illegal immigration, ending cashless bail, and oversight of local district attorneys. He holds top ratings from the NRA and the Faith & Freedom Coalition, was named James Magazine’s Top Lawmaker, and received the Conservative Achievement Award from the ACUF. A UGA graduate and former student body president, Houston was named one of UGA’s 40 Under 40 in 2022. He and his wife, Gabrielle, reside in Athens and attend Athens Church.
